A post from Joe Ashley.
Today I represented GB and Arena 80 in the European Masters Championships M35 1500m final. I may have only come 13th, but it was the highlight of my running life (so far).
What I wanted to say is that I joined Arena as a casual runner and never thought of myself as an ‘athlete’. My first track session was in group 3 (I think), I chipped away and gradually moved up. The Sussex Vets league was my first ever track race, I had no idea what to expect but tried out something new and loved it.
Bob, Jenny, Caroline, Michele, Steve, Graham, Marc and all the coaches and committee members are amazing (apologies to those I haven’t mentioned!), but so are all the Arena athletes and I urge you all to try something new, and keep on testing yourselves, especially the new guys. You never know where you may end up!
What an inspired post from Joe Ashley and something, as a club, we should and are very proud of. To see one of our athletes come through the ranks and to strive to improve and always pushing his boundaries and limits just goes to prove that hard work can pay off. Joe posted a new PB in his semi final race taking 4 seconds off his previous best to post a time of 4.13.22.
We are very proud of what Joe has accomplished in Denmark this weekend and Arena 80 congratulate Joe on a job well done.
