SEAA Southern Masters Cross Country Championships at Horspath Fields, Oxford.

Our Vet’s ladies headed off way up north (well sort of) to Horspeth Fields for the annual SEAA Southern Masters Cross Country Championships on Saturday 9th December.

The conditions were blue skies, light winds and obviously a tad chilly to say the least. This didn’t stop our ladies though and off they went to see how they fared against some of the best in the south-east.

I’m not sure what expectations there were, if any, to see what they could bring to the table for this event but Arena took up some of our very best and boy did they do their best.

We should all feel very proud of our ladies as they did not disappoint us and our blue flag was flying at full mast.

In terms of the results well let’s do a round-up.

Women’s individual 40-44 event (6000m)
Juliette Roberts came home in a great 5th place in 23.16 which tops off a great year for Juliette.

Women’s individual 45-49 event (6000m)
Arena was well represented here and our ladies were outstanding.
Julie Briggs heads the list with a superb race and coming home in 1st place in a time of 21.43.
In 4th place was the first of our captains Dani Tarleton in a time of 22.40
The second of our captains was Tara Shanahan coming in just behind Dani in 6th place with a time of 23.09.

Three in the top 6 now that’s what I call running.

With such a brilliant race from our ladies that as well as their top 6 placings they of course walked away with Gold in the W40-49 team category, just an unstoppable force at present.

Women’s individual 50-54 event (6000m)
Representing Arena here we had the club stalwart in the form of Caroline Wood. It was another excellent showing taking 7th place in a time of 23.45.

Women’s individual 55-59 event (6000m)
We had two representing Arena 80 in this category and again it was a top display of running from our ladies.
Taking top a 5 placing was Clare Aquilina in a time of 25.36 with jenny Hughes taking a top 10 place in 8th place in a time of 26.28.

With Caroline, Clare and Jenny all placing so highly they took a top 4 position in the W50-59 Team Event.

What an excellent showing the ladies gave out there and we’ve said many times before, what an inspiration these ladies are to our newer and senior women members. To be able to keep motivating and pushing them at this level is quite something and ladies we applaud you on a job well done.
