The 10th Hove Prom 10k Race 2017, Sunday 29th October
What a glorious day we all had down on the Hove prom today. Arena 80 hosted their 10th anniversary Hove Prom race with a record amount of athletes taking part, all 457 of them.
The race is part of the Sussex Grand Prix series and is the penultimate race before the Crowborough 10k on December 3rd which takes the final stage of the series.
The weather started off on the cool side but as the race continued it was fair to say that things started to heat up somewhat. There was a stiff breeze on the outbound legs but at least it was behind on the run for home.
As for the winners then we must say a huge congratulations to Stuart Holloway for the men and Bethan Male for the women.
Stuart’s winning time was 33.17 and this was his sixth 1st placing for 2017 so no stranger to the podium. The funny thing is that Stuart had not come to Brighton to actually participate in this race but had come down to watch Brighton vs Southampton (FT 1-1) at the Amex. Not a bad day for Stuart at the seaside.
Bethan, who is not attached to any club presently, had a winning time of 39.45 and was just 25 seconds outside of her previous best. Bethan was also a recent winner at the Barns Green Half Marathon in September as well as the Heartbreak Marathon in Fordingbridge in February so a lady for all distances it seems and a great way to end the year.
The Men’s top 3:
1st – Stuart Holloway – 33.17 – (City of Salisbury AC & RC)
2nd – Gary Foster – 33.41 – (Hastings AC)
3rd – James Skinner – 33.51 – (Haywards Heath Harriers)
The Women’s top 3:

Arena 80 AC hosted this race and we would like to say a huge thank you to all the volunteers that helped to make this race such a great race today. It hasn’t been easy over this week as storm Brian decided to pay us a visit last week and shower us with gifts of pebbles and shingles to decorate the course with. Arena though did what they do best and came out in force with brooms to make sure that the show did go on so a huge thank you to one and all.
Arena did have a few athletes take part though and the first man home for Arena was Del Wallace in a time of 36.37 and his second fastest 10k time of 2017.
Good to see Al Silvester back out there again as he comes back from injury. Al was looking for about the 36 minute mark today and got 36.40 as Del could probably feel Al’s breath on his neck.
Third man home for Arena was Kevin Meegan in a time of 37.23 which was a new PB for him so well done Kevin.
Of our women who ran today then first lady home was Helena Rooney who was 6th lady as well in a time of 41.36 which was a PB for her.
Second lady home for Arena was cat Scott in a time of 44.55 which was a big PB for her.
Third lady for Arena went to Kate Rowinska in a time of 48.23 which was also a new PB for her as well so a good day for our ladies.
Such a great day out there and thank you to everyone who took part in this event. We hope you enjoyed it as much as we enjoyed hosting it and we look forward to seeing you again next year.
Thank you from all of us here at Arena 80 AC.
