Raising Awareness of Eating Disorders

Running is a great way to help maintain a healthy body weight. However, in some cases, runners can become obsessed with exercising to shed more pounds or limiting what they eat to reduce weight in pursuit of performance. Taken to extremes, this may develop into an eating disorder.

Brigitte Groves, Arena’s Welfare Officer, recently attended an England Athletics eating disorder webinar. Please let her know if you have any concerns about disordered eating.

The attached presentation outlines 3 major eating disorders – anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, and binge eating disorder. It gives useful advice for spotting the warning signs of eating disorders.
