Sussex Road Relays 2018 – Arena 80 medal relay

Another fantastic day out for Arena at the Sussex Road Relays today. We had a great turnout of 23 female runners who all gave their all on the 2 mile course.
We came home with the team gold for W40 (Julie Briggs, Katherine O’Hara & Tara Shanahan) and W50 (Jackie Rymell, Jenny Hughes & Caroline Wood).
Fastest laps in their age category went to W40 Julie Briggs – 12.12 & W50 Caroline Wood – 13.12 & second fastest for W40 Tara Shanahan – 12.27.
Medals were also given out for the XC league, Dani now has most of them to distribute, quite a task as there were so many!
The ladies senior women A team placed a very respectable 7th place with Helena Rooney posting the fastest team time with 12.25.
The ladies senior women B team placed 17th with Mary Henderson posting the fastest team time with 14.28.
The ladies senior women C team placed 22nd with Sophie Cheesman posting the fastest team time with 14.55.
The ladies V40 B team placed an excellent 4th place with Rachel Woolston posting the fastest team time with 1317.
The ladies V40 C team placed 13th with Juliet Fine posting the fastest team time with 16.31.
The ladies V50 B team placed an excellent 4th place with Sue Brumwell posting the fastest team time with 14.43.
We now have a look at the men and again another sterling effort from our men as they placed a more than respectable 7th place. Richard Clayton posted the fastest team time with 10.32 but I would also like to mention Alex Jago who is showing no signs of slowing down as he posted the 2nd fastest team time of 10.53 so not far behind Mr Clayton. Well done to Mark Stephenson on picking the perfect men’s team time-wise.
The senior men’s B team placed an excellent 19th with Ricky Coleman posting the fastest team time with 11.53.
The men’s O50 A team placed an excellent 10th with Steve McNealy posting the fastest team time with 12.20.
And congratulations to Kev Lowe, Michael Miller & Paul Gasson on their V60 team bronze with Michael Miller posting the fastest team time with 13.33 and edging out Paul Gasson by just 1 second.
So yet again it was another very successful day for Arena in terms of placings and medals. However it’s the true spirit of Arena 80 which won again. It’s been said so many times before but when both the men and women come together in these races there is such a strong bond within the teams which really does cement the social aspect of the club.
This of course was a Super Series event as well and results and tables will be come in due course.
A massive well done to all of you that took part and especially those that made cake which was to die for so I’m told.
The next Super Series event is the Arena 80 track 3k on Monday 30th April at Withdean.
