Club Training

Our main club training sessions are on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.

While broadly designed to bring the best out of our members for races from 5k to marathon, each session is flexible and designed to accommodate a range of targets.

Monday

Where

Withdean Stadium Athletics Track, Tongdean Lane, Brighton BN1 5JD.
Parking is free at the stadium.

When

Every Monday, we have the track available from 6:15pm to 7:45. The coached session starts at 6:45pm sharp.

The Session

Sessions vary every week, but before we start our coaches will split runners into ability groups, explain how the session will be structured and what we are trying to achieve.

  • 10 minute warm-up, with drills for mobilisation and flexibility
  • 20 minutes of rep or interval sessions at paces which can vary from 1500m to 5k pace.
  • 5 minute warm down.

Our coaches will work with you during these sessions to help you improve your speed, stamina, endurance and running technique.

Tuesday

When

Every Tuesday, meet at 6.30pm.

Where

In the summer months we meet meet at Hove Recreation Ground. In the winter the venue changes to Hove Park.

The Session

  • 10-15 minutes warm up with running drills designed to work on form and posture
  • 20-25 minutes speed endurance interval session (fast bursts with jog recoveries)
  • 5 minute warm down.

This session is led by Mark Stephenson.

Wednesday

When

Every Wednesday, meet at 6.30pm.

Where

In the summer the session moves to some lovely off-road running routes in the country around the South Downs and Stanmer Park. In the winter the runs are mainly around Hove Seafront.

The Session

These are steady runs of 6 to 8 miles depending on conditions and are a great chance to get to know your fellow club mates. No one is left behind. All members are welcome.

THURSDAY

When

Every Thursday, meet at 6.00pm. Please arrive warmed up and ready to go.

Where

Hove Park, Goldstone Cres, Hove BN3 6BG.

The Session

This 30 minute interval training session combines short, high intensity bursts of speed, with slow, recovery phases, repeated during the session. By getting your body used to running at a fast pace, your race pace will feel easier.

Running sessions vary from week to week, with details emailed to you in advance.
