Get to know…Andy Clark
It’s that time of the week when we get to pick on, oops I mean get to know a little bit more about one of our members and so for this week we are joined by Mr Nice Guy Andy Clark. I have known Andy for quite a number of years and he has always been the same, a laid back but genuinely one of the nicest blokes you could meet. He’s another one of the Arena athletes that proves that training with Arena does work and it’s been good to see so much improvement by Andy who has made nice progression since joining. Thank you Juliette Fine for pointing Andy in the right direction of Arena 80 and Withdean. Now let’s see what this man is all about shall we?
Name: Andy Clark
1. When and why did you join Arena:
I joined summer 2017. Juliet my wife had joined 6 months previously, and had good things to say about the Arena camaraderie. Plus I get a couple of quid off all these races I was entering already.
2. How long have you been running:
About 15years.
3. Where did you grow up:
Southampton, then Eastbourne, then Brighton. I guess I love the South Coast.
4. If you were given a yacht what would you name it:
I would sell it unnamed straight away. Even living by the sea all this time, I would not trust myself out there in a boat.
5. What’s something that you aren’t:
A sprinter.
6. Tell us about something you would happily do again:
Spend a year in Central America.
7. If you had one word to describe yourself, what would you choose:
Idle.
8. What was your favourite TV programme when you were growing up:
I did love the A-Team.
9. Who is your sporting hero:
Growing up is had to be Eric Bristow – The Crafty Cockney. More recently my daughter has introduced me to the world of climbing, and it is hard not to be impressed with our current 2 year in a row world champion boulderer Shauna Coxsey.
10. You’ve been given access to a time machine, where would you travel to:
As long as it will be a return trip, I would check out the dinosaurs. And then the 1976 FA Cup Final on the way home.
11. What is your one weakness:
The booze.
12. Is there anything you would like to accomplish in the next 10 years:
A life of Leisure.
13. If money was no object, where you most like to visit:
I would take the Orient Express from London to the end of the line – hopefully somewhere in the Orient.
14. What music are you presently listening to:
The Cavern of Anti-matter. New Album is Hormone Lemonade.
15. What’s something we don’t know about you:
I work as a salesman for a company from whom a certain Mr Bonaldi used to buy his furry handcuffs and edible underwear!
16. What is the one item you really should throw away but just can’t do it:
My CDs and I don’t even have a CD player any more.
17. What’s the furthest you have ridden on your bike:
Brighton to Eastbourne.
18. If you could offer any advice to yourself as a baby what would it be:
I would say “blah-blah-blah-blah”. I think babies are pretty crap at absorbing advice. Though I am sure some parents would inevitably disagree.
19. If you could have had the starring role in one film already made, which movie would it be:
Life is Sweet by Mike Leigh. Would be great appearing with such a great cast and seeing the Mike Leigh method.
20. What is the greatest TV theme song ever:
Has to be Henry Mancini’s The Pink Panther .
Our biggest thanks to Andy for his Q&A’s this week and we hope that you feel that you have now got to know Andy a little better. Check back next Wednesday for another set of Q&A’s with our chosen club member.
