Our thanks to Gary Osborne for this race report.
Saturday Race report: Sussex XC Champs at Bexhill
It was a cold one! 4-5c by my reckoning. The usual ‘do we use spikes or trail shoes?’ took up a large percentage of the pre-race chat. Quick recce and we then also questioned ‘do we wear t-shirt under club vest or not?’. Difficult prep on a cold dry day.. anyway… let’s get to running.
It was a small field of runners with the super fast front men stretching from the pack early on. It was a fairly fast XC course of 12k for men and 6.4k for women. Unfortunately at the last minute we only had four men so no team points for us (we needed 6). Teo Van Well was first arena man home, followed by Jon Bowditch, Craig Isaac and Gary Osborne.

Women faired much better with a team win and notable performances from Caroline Hoyte taking 3rd overall followed by Maisie Trafford, Emily Proto, Dani Tarleton, Tara Shanahan and Yvonne Patrick.
*Final times and placings to follow soon after official results have been released.
It was a great event and there definitely should have been more of our members taking part. Yes it was a fast race but to my knowledge no different to the other fixtures in terms of range of abilities. It seemed a shame to not have our banner and tent there amongst the other Sussex clubs. Let’s try and make a bigger event of it next year.
