Brighton Marathon Zone 2 volunteers needed.

Hi Areneez,
Sunday, April 14th – What are you doing in the morning?  Are you free?
This year for the first time before the 10k and the marathon there will be a mass bike ride through the city and around the marathon course.
Zone two is the most complicated part of the course running from Preston Circus to the seafront but zig zagging through the North Laines and both sides of Grand Parade, the Level and Lewes Road and covering about 4 miles.  Bikes and runners go in opposite directions for some of the course and chaos could well reign if we don’t set it up right!  So this year the Zone Two team, (nearly all Arena runners) is looking for a large number of additional volunteers to help us set up the bike course and then change it before the running races come through.  We’d particularly like a group of bike riders who could ride through the zone 2 bike course before the race comes through to help us make it as cyclist friendly and safe as possible, before helping to marshal the three races.
This year, for the first time, we also have a Disley Crossing in our zone to prevent spectators getting blocked on their way through to the seafront – a major problem for the past 9 years which we are determined to resolve this year, but again we’ll need extra bodies to make it happen smoothly.
Zone two is a fabulous, lively, and very busy part of the course – for both cyclists and runners it’s at the beginning of their adventure through the city and although there’s an early start time (roads close at 5.30am) we need to re-open the roads to traffic by 12 noon, so it’s full on but over quickly.  You will have ringside viewing of all three events so can cheer on club mates and friends while helping to make this event  one to remember for the thousands of people who come to our great city.
If you have a bike and would like to be part of the bike set up team, or if you don’t have a bike but would like to be part of the zone two team  then please contact me either on Arena Facebook or at Arena contact, and register for zone two at http://www.brightonmarathonweekend.co.uk/volunteer
Many thanks
